were walking on air. They had been hunted down by OCI Radio International
in Marbella, who had demanded an interview.
Well, actually, we weren’t hunted down exactly. We phoned
them ourselves. Still, there was great excitement in the camp when
Radio Presenter Brenda suggested that we come in to their studio
in Marbella on Tuesday the 2nd May at 11.30am to chat on air about
our new online magazine.
Driving in from the wild interior the day before, with our virtual
fangs and country claws receding as if by magic as we neared the
more civilised regions of the costa, we realised that our car was
the dirtiest on the block. Having pulled into the exclusive underground
car park at a relative’s house near Puerto Banus, I pulled
a remaining piece of straw from my few remaining strands of hair
and said: This car has got to be cleaned.
We had heard that parking was a nightmare in Marbella, so we left
the now squeaky clean car in Puerto Banus the next morning before
catching a cab. In conversation, the driver mentioned that he was
too old for the internet, which was something that might appeal
more to his son. Always keen to spread the word about our online
magazine, I gave him our business card to give to his son. It turned
out that the boy was only four years old, but hopefully beautifulyoo.com
will still be around when he starts surfing the web!
We arrived far too early and strolled sedately along the Marbella
boulevard, stopping at a wonderful beach café for a cup of
coffee. Used to the hot, strong coffee served inland, at very affordable
prices, we knocked back the two cold sips from our tiny cups with
little satisfaction and when I received the bill, despite the lovely
view of the ocean, I pointed out to the waiter that I had just been
the victim of a robbery.
We climbed the grand staircase of the King Edward Building to the
second floor and pressed the bell on the door of Onda Cero International
Radio and then we were in, our hearts pounding with excitement and
with no idea of what it was going to be like. Brenda Padilla was
fantastic. She put us at our ease immediately and the next thing
there we were in the studio, chatting about our favourite subjects
to someone who wanted to listen! We hope that there were others
listening too! It was such good fun that the time passed by in a
flash. We headed back on foot along the lovely coastline between
Marbella and Puerto Banus, feeling very happy. The broadcast was
over, but we were still walking on air.
For us life with our online magazine on inland Spain is proving
to be a wonderful experience. We have met a host of fascinating
people, we have seen incredible places and done exhilarating things
that we would never have pictured ourselves doing before. And we
had the chance to tell people about it on the radio, to invite them
to visit our website and share our passion for Andalucia. Thanks,
Brenda. Thanks, OCI, for one of the most beautiful days of our lives.
