had an absurd desire to shout out into the roar of Spanish voices
“I’m the only Brit in the village!” I didn’t. And I wasn’t of course, not by a long shot, but my wife and I could conceivably have been the only Brits in the pub. We had arrived early enough to secure a couple of seats at the bar with a good view of the stage. At that point there were only a handful of us there, the atmosphere expectant, but rather quiet. Suddenly the crowds started pouring in and our comfortable little corner couldn’t have been more awkward for those thirsty souls trying to get a drink. Instead of irritation though, our tightly pressing and far stretching new local neighbours could not have been more friendly or welcoming. I joked with one of them about English songs being played for the Spanish crowd, but it turned around on me as the band switched to Spanish favourites and the crowd went nuts, waving their arms in the air and joining in with occasional well known verses. The group was called Muzzy, a three-piece acoustic set, and they were playing at the newly opened Gavanna, the latest of a string of new music venues in the pueblo, providing our little town of Alora with an increasingly hot and most enjoyable music scene, visitors apparently now making the journey up here at weekends from Malaga, not bad considering their many rival attractions! On guitars were the exceptional Jose and David, skilful masters of rhythm, while handling the vocals was Sergio, better known in the area as the front man for the popular rock band Devil’s Dandruff. There can be no doubt about Sergio’s passionate love of music, his soul so deeply committed every time you hear him sing that he has an immediate, infectious influence on those playing with him and those listening to the performance. I say listening. This is Spain. In England I have often seen performers put off or clearly annoyed by any background chatter. On this special night in Alora, as with so many others, the audience showed a unique ability to carry on their conversations at full volume while at the same time paying full attention to the music, the overall atmosphere charged, it seemed at times, almost to the point of spontaneous combustion. With the number of musical happenings steadily increasing in Alora there is usually something on offer at most times of the year and quite a healthy variety too. We publish forthcoming gigs at the Arte Estacion, nicknamed by Spanish locals as the ‘cradle of rock’, and also any occasional musical nights at some of the bars and restaurants listed on this site, although one of the best ways to find our what’s on the musical agenda is to keep your eyes peeled for posters stuck up all over town, much like the early days in London. Peaceful at times, sleepy on occasion and with nothing happening at all, except when it sure does, Alora can be a very exciting place, the music scene undeniably brilliant and very good for the corazon. |

un deseo absurdo de gritar en el rugido de voces españolas
"Soy el único Brit en la aldea!" No lo hice. Y no estaba por supuesto, en absoluto, pero mi esposa y yo hubiéramos sido los únicos Brits en el bar. Habíamos llegado temprano bastante para asegurar un par de asientos en la bar con una buena vista de la etapa. En ese punto había solamente un puñado de nosotros allí, la atmósfera expectante, pero algo reservado. Las muchedumbres comenzaron repentinamente a verter adentro y nuestra pequeña esquina cómoda no habría podido ser más torpe para esas almas sedientas que intentaban conseguir una bebida. En vez de irritación sin embargo, nuestros nuevos vecinos locales firmemente empujandos y estirandos no habrían podido ser más amistosos. Bromeé con uno de ellos sobre las canciones inglesas que eran tocadas para la muchedumbre española, pero dio vuelta en mí cuando que el grupo cambió a los favoritos españoles y llegó la muchedumbre loca, agitando sus brazos en el aire y adjuntando con versos bien conocidos ocasionales. Se llamó el grupo Muzzy, un grupo acústico de tres pedazos, y tocaban en el Gavanna nuevamente abierto, el más último de una cadena de lugares nuevos de la música en el pueblo, dando a nuestra pequeña ciudad de Alora una escena musical cada vez más caliente y agradable, gente al parecer ahora que hacía el viaje aquí en los fines de semana de Málaga, no mala en vista de las atracciones allí! En las guitarras estaban Jose y David, maestros del ritmo, mientras la jeffe de los vocals era Sergio, mejor sabido en el área como el hombre delantero para Devil’s Dandfruff. No puede haber duda sobre el amor apasionado de Sergio de la música, su alma confiada tan profundamente cada vez que lo oyes cantar que él tiene una influencia inmediata, infecciosa en ésos que tocan con él y ésos escuchando también. Digo escuchando. Ésta es España. En Inglaterra he visto a menudo a musicos claramente molestados por cualquier charla del fondo. En esta noche especial en Alora, como con tan muchas otras, el público demostró una capacidad única de continuar sus conversaciones en el volumen alto mientras que en el mismo tiempo que prestaba la atención completa a la música, la atmósfera total cargada, él se parecía ocasionalmente, al punto de la combustión espontánea. Con el número de locales musicales constantemente aumentando en Alora hay generalmente algo en oferta en la mayoría de las veces del año y de una variedad sana también. Publicamos gigs próximos en el Arte Estacion, apodado por los locales españoles como la cuna de música ', y también cualquier noche musical ocasional en algunos de los bares y de los restaurantes enumerados en este sitio web, aunque una de las mejores maneras de encontrar lo que está en la agenda debe mantener sus ojos pelados para los carteles que se pegan en todas las partes del pueblo, como los días tempranos en Londres. Pacífico ocasionalmente, soñoliento en la ocasión y con nada que sucede en todos, a menos que cuando seguro lo hace, Alora pueda ser un lugar muy emocionante, la escena de la música innegable brillante y muy buena para el corazon. |
