| Merry
Christmas
from Alora!
The
spirit of Christmas was burning bright at the first Alora
Christmas Fair held on the 15th December in the recently
redesigned Plaza Arriba.
A
little old fashioned and all the better for it, the small
village feel of genuine joy and glad tidings was good to
see, with stalls proudly displaying the region’s local
produce, such as cheeses, sausages, olive oil, wine, craftwork
and perfume and soaps made from natural ingredients. There
was story telling and balloon sculpture for the children
before a stirring, guitar accompanied performance of carol
singing that warmed the hearts of the crowd in the slightly
chilly evening air.
Organised
by the Town Hall and AECA, the fair is sure to become a
regular event on Alora’s rich cultural and entertainment
calendar, although it is extremely unlikely that the hope
expressed by one of the ‘local characters’,
a young man with a carrot nose and a Beefeater hat, would
ever be realised: “Let it snow!” |
