Although
there are only 14 houses and an unused mill in the hamlet of Monterroso,
which is tucked away deep in the heart of the Andalucian countryside,
just off the MA3403 linking Malaga with Almogia, Villanueva de la
Concepcion and Antequera, the atmosphere at times in the village
bar can be very lively, the locals always extending a warm welcome
to visitors. The bar doubles up as a village store as well and should
you ever find it closed when you need something all you have to
do is knock on the door! There is also a selection of shops, small
supermarkets, bars and restaurants in the nearby towns of Almogia
and Villanueva de la Concepcion. The cottage is the perfectly situated
for further exploration of nearby attractions such as the mountain
range of El Torcal or the lakes near El Chorro Gorge and the fascinating
cities of Granada, Cordoba, Seville and Ronda.
This quaint
holiday retreat furnished with delightful antiques is ideal for
those wanting complete relaxation, while at the same time giving
the opportunity for further exploration of this spectacular part
of the world, either on foot, mountain bike, two of which are provided
free of charge, or by car. And in complete contrast to the peace
and quiet throughout the rest of the year, the middle part of July
sees the pueblo’s three-day feria, which is famous in the
area, with live music, competitions, a disco and a giant paella,
the celebrations continuing into the early hours of the morning.
